It is common to hear comments regarding the Good Old Days ™. The comment itself varies, but basically all boil down to this: once things were better.
This is due in part to the nostalgia, and partly to fear of change. And sometimes, it is also a bad memory: the tendency is to remember the good things and forget the bad.

And now tell me that "nothing has improved," things "the old days were better." Tell me that the human race, despite all its faults, has not changed, and does not evolve. Tell me that "everything is the same, or worse." Tell me that "we are increasingly immoral." That the solution to humanity's problems was "back to the values of the past."
